Shunkwiler-Koonapalooza

Milwaukee October 2003

No the word at the top of this web page does not pass spell check, but it sure passes the fun test!  The following pictures come from a reunion of Shunkwilers and Koons that took place in Milwaukee Wisconsin - land of Cheese Curds and Custard.  The theme of this year's palooza - Engineer Jokes, Doctor Jokes, Business Jokes, and yes BEER!

(The pictures on this page have been reduced in size to make them load faster.  Click here to get the full sized pics.)

The trip started out as Mary and Jon landed in Milwaukee with appettites.  The solution to that problem would be dinner at P.F. Changs.  I know you are still asking, "Why Milwaukee?"  Well, it turns out that Betsey graduated last year with a degree in marketing and now has a job working for Carson Pirie Scott in Milwaukee.

Betsey cleverly "got lost" trying to find P.F. Changs which caused us to drive the streets of Milwaukee aimlessly so that we wouldn't have to wait in line for dinner.  Quick thinking Bets!

How many Shunkwilers does it take to blow up an air mattress?

Betsey and Sara are quite the chefs!  After a DELICIOUS breakfast of waffles, hash browns, and sausage, Jon remembers that he forgot his toothbrush in Montana.

After breakfast, Betsey redeems herself as tour guide by giving us a great driving tour of the city of Milwaukee.

Try not to smile!

Don't we look innocent?

(P.S. - That's Lake Michigan in the background.)

Next to Betsey, is her roommate Katie.  Katie was kind enough to be our photographer for many of these pictures.  She also toured with us and taught us to play 65.  Thanks Katie!

Milwaukee is all about Miller!!

We sampled some Miller on a brewery tour!

(To be exact, we chugged 3 glasses each!)

The roommates that drink together, stay together...

Uncle Lee will be so proud!

Our next stop was the Lakefront Brewery.  It's a whole other story, so click here to see.

For those of you that know Betsey and Mary, I don't have to explain this next picture, but for the rest of you the answer is - yes, they are sipping champagne through twizzlers!

The signing of the bottle...

We topped off our celebrating with cheese curds, custard, and Butter Burgers at Culvers.

"A Better Brand of Beef makes a Butter Burger Better!"

We finished off the evening by reliving the good old days.  A game or 2 of cards and shots of Dr. Pepper!  Life doesn't get any better than that!

(Yes, Mary still won every card game!)

The last day of a short weekend arrives...

It might have been the first Shunkwiler-Koonapalooza, but it won't be the last...
